To experience new designs in early development stages we established a simulation environment. Our driving simulator allows the testing of automotive interiors as CAD-data in a close to reality environment without the need of costly physical prototypes. New developments can be experienced in urban traffic, on rural roads or on the race track, in the sunshine or in rainy weather conditions.
Ergonomics, the feeling of space, sight and vision can be experienced as well as the functionality and reachability of control elements or indicators, for example. Do head up displays or the color and position of ambient lights distract the driver? Is the menu navigation of infotainment systems convenient while driving the car? Where does the occupant grasp or look at when using the vehicle? These are just examples of topics that can be addressed and evaluated within our simulation environment.
In order to save time and reduce cost, we do not use sophisticated physical mock-ups of interior components but render the CAD data resulting in high resolution graphical models that can be displayed using VR goggles. For a highly immersive feeling of the virtual interior we use dummy models of the components to be tested. The flexibility of our simulation environment allows to represent and switch between various dimension concepts – from sports cars to commercial vehicles. All on top of a high performance 6DOF motion system to provide close to reality vehicle dynamics. Seats and steering wheels of series-production vehicles can be used to give the vehicle specific driving feeling.
